Peter Brian Medawar - Lebanon - Co-Winner The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1960

Najib Mahfooz - Egypt - Winner The Nobel Prize in Literature 1988. Najib was stabbed in the back by Egyptian Moslem fundamentalists in 1997 because he supported the Peace Process between the Palestinians and Isralies. Najib was partially paralysed as a result.

Gibran Khalil Gibran - Lebanon - Internationally known writer. His masterpiece, "The Prophet", has been translated to tens of languages. Boston has honored his memory with the Gibran Khalil Gibran park in the heart of downtown - situated symbolically between a church and a library.

Edouard Saiid - Palestine - Internationally renowned scholar of Columbia University. Writes extensively about the Middle East.

Albert Camus - Algeria and France - Nobel Prize laureate in literarture. His style is beautiful. Existentialist writer he has the gift of describing the deepest most complex of human feelings.

Hasan Fathi - revolutionary Egyptian architect.

Zaha Hadid - world-renowned architect originally from Iraq.

Queen Noor - of Jordan. Internationally renowned stateswoman, fighter for world peace and justice. Carrier of the Late King Hussein's legacy of cultural exchange and understanding, education, social emancipation of women, and democracy.

Michael Ansara - of Syrian decent. He played Cochise in the popular TV drama "Broken Arrow."

Murray Abraham - of Syrian decent. he won the Oscar for best actor for the movie Amadeus.

Vic Tayback - Syrian-American actor who played 'Mel' in Alice

Najeeb Halaby - Syrian-American. former head of the Federal Aeronautics Authority; former CEO of Pan-American Airlines. Queen Noor's father.

Rene Angelil - discoverer and manager of wife Celine Dion. Syrian decent.
