Amidst the grey, crawling, oppressive ugliness of Beirut I saw many beautiful trees defying the City. Winter time stripped their branches bare and that revealed the amazaing beauty and patterns of their branches. This fig tree, toward the end of March started sprouting leaves which with an intense warm backlight sun, looked breathtaking against the ugly background of the Chemistry Department of the American University of Beirut.
